Every Kala Phone is covered for one year. If it stops working right and the problem is our responsibility, we ship you a working replacement first and sort out the details after. Here is the whole warranty, in plain language.

Who gives this warranty

This Limited Warranty is given by Adesse, LLC, a Washington limited liability company (“Adesse,” “we”). We are the warrantor. This warranty comes from us, not from the hardware's original manufacturer, and claims under this warranty go to us. You never need to deal with the hardware's manufacturer; every claim comes to us, and we handle the rest.

Contact: support@thekalaphone.com
Mail: Adesse, 1402 Lake Tapps Pkwy SE, STE #104, PMB 117, Auburn, WA 98092

Support is by email; a real person answers, same business day. There is no phone support; that's by design, and it doesn't slow a claim down.

Who and what it covers, and for how long

This warranty covers the original purchaser of a Kala Phone bought from thekalaphone.com, for one year from the day your phone is delivered. No registration is required; your order confirmation is your proof of coverage.

If the phone was a gift to you, the warranty belongs to the person who bought it, and warranty claims should come from or through them. The free Kala software service, on the other hand, follows the phone: it's yours as the person carrying it.

What's covered: defects in materials or workmanship in the phone's hardware, and failures of the software as we provisioned it, under normal use. In short: if it fails because of something about the phone as we set it up and shipped it, that's on us.

What's not covered

We only exclude problems that something else caused. Specifically, this warranty does not cover:

  • Damage caused by an accident or misuse: drops, crushing, liquid, fire.
  • Damage caused by a repair or disassembly attempt by anyone other than Adesse.
  • Damage caused by an unauthorized modification of the phone's software or hardware. A modification by itself does not void this warranty. If you've modified the phone and something unrelated fails, the failure is still covered. It is our burden to show that a modification actually caused the problem, not yours to prove it didn't.
  • Cosmetic wear that doesn't affect function.
  • Normal battery aging. The battery is covered if its usable capacity falls below 80% of the capacity it was rated for when new, within the warranty year. We confirm the reading with you as part of the claim.
  • The behavior of third-party apps and services. Third-party apps and services can change their own requirements or stop supporting a device at any time; that's their decision, not a defect in the phone.
  • The end of the operating system's update support. OS and security updates come from the phone's manufacturer, on the manufacturer's own schedule; they are not something we deliver, and this warranty doesn't cover when that support window ends. Our own software (the Kala Store, launcher, and catalog) is updated by us, and that commitment lives in the Device & Software Terms.

Two things we will never do: we will never void this warranty just because the phone was modified or opened, and we will never condition it on you using any particular carrier, app, or paid service. You cannot lose this warranty by choosing not to use something.

Hardware warranty and software service are separate things. If you ask us to unlock the phone from Kala's software management (see the Device & Software Terms), the free software service ends on that phone, but this hardware warranty continues for its full term.

How to make a claim

Email support@thekalaphone.com with your order number and what's happening. Include a photo or video if it helps. We'll respond the same business day and, if we need to, run through a short diagnostic with you by email.

If the claim is approved, we don't leave you phoneless. Here's exactly how it works:

  1. We ship you a replacement first. A fully provisioned replacement phone, new, the same model and storage size you bought, ships within 3 business days of approval, with a prepaid return label in the box. Your apps, settings, and restrictions carry over from your restore snapshot; we'll walk you through the restore when the replacement arrives.
  2. You send the old phone back in the same box, using the prepaid label, within 14 days of receiving the replacement. Shipping both ways is on us (ground service).
  3. Card on file. When we approve the claim we'll ask you to keep a card on file. It is charged only if the original phone isn't on its way back within the 14 days, and only for the replacement's price for the model and storage size you bought ($599 for 128 GB, $699 for 256 GB), which we also state in writing when the claim is approved. We'll remind you by email before the window closes. Send the phone back and the card is never touched.
  4. Your data. Back up anything you need before shipping the phone back (we'll remind you how). Every phone that comes back to us is factory-wiped as part of service; we don't read it, we erase it.

If a replacement isn't possible and we can't repair the phone within a reasonable time, we'll refund what you paid for it. Repair, replacement, or refund as described here is the only remedy under this warranty.

If you sell or give the phone away

This Limited Warranty covers the original purchaser only and does not transfer with the phone. The free Kala software service does follow the phone to its next owner. (This is stated here conspicuously on purpose: it's one of the few places we're less generous than we sound, and we'd rather you know it.)

Implied warranties and other legal language

Any implied warranties on your phone, including the implied warranty of merchantability and of fitness for a particular purpose, are limited in duration to the one-year term of this written warranty, where the law allows that limit. Incidental and consequential damages are excluded, where the law allows that exclusion, and our total responsibility under this warranty will not exceed what you paid for the phone.

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the limitations above may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. If your state's law gives you more than this warranty does, you get the more.

This warranty is governed by Washington law, except where the consumer law of your own state applies and gives you more.

If this warranty ever changes

This is version 1 of the Kala Phone Limited Warranty, effective August 6, 2026. The version in effect on the day your phone is delivered is the one that applies to that phone for its whole warranty year; a later change never takes coverage away from a phone already delivered. When we update this warranty we date the new version and keep every prior version available at thekalaphone.com/warranty/versions.
